Description
Charles McGee retired as a Colonel from the United States Air Force. During World War II, he flew the P-51C Mustang with the 332nd Fighter Squadron, known by history as The Tuskegee Airmen. In August of 1944, Charles McGee spotted two Luftwaffe Focke Wolfe 190s as they sped through the bomber formation that he and other Tuskegee pilots were protecting. McGee began to chase one of the German fighters. What began as a skirmish at high altitude, evolved into a chase just over the tree tops and a German airbase. It was there that McGee finally got the clean shot he had been looking for, destroying the German fighter. After the war Charles McGee had a highly decorated career in the Air Force, flying combat missions in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He flew almost every aircraft in the Air Force inventory between World War II and his retirement in the 1970s.
